Research & Dissemination

Over the next three years, Human Scale Education will research into, and make accessible, best practice in human scale education nationally and internationally, making our intelligence and experience available to the wider educational community by creating a virtual online portal.

The work will involve collating and disseminating examples of best practice in human scale approaches for parents, schools, teachers, and the wider educational community. These will include:

  • case studies of exemplar schools drawn from our HSS Schools Project;
  • international exemplar practice drawn from projects in Denmark and the USA;
  • case studies of schools which are developing new human scale approaches;
  • video presentations from school leaders in the UK and the USA who are pioneering work in human scale education;
  • exemplar models of human scale practice in relation to learning approaches, pedagogy, school environments, assessment and staff development;
  • a forum for schools and teachers to contribute and share practice.

Comissioned evaluation

Human Scale Education Movement has commissioned the Burns Owen Partnership to design and implement the evaluation of its programmes which will provide an external evaluation of the impact of our new work and evaluate the impact which our new infrastructure has had on developing programmes in schools and communities.

This will support HSEM to scan the initial policy landscape; to bring potential partners and collaborators together; to raise awareness of the need, and help HSEM to commission the development model of, a Regional Development and research Community hosted by an HSE Partnership School.

The evaluation will ensure benchmark standards in the evaluation which are proportional, comparable and capable of standardisation. The Logic Model Approach which will be used is a structured way of thinking about how social change occurs and how to evaluate the impact of a set of interventions. It uses quantitative and qualitative approaches using a variety of data to describe inputs, outputs, outcomes and impact.
